Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you choose.
What is website rental?
It means we build and run the website for you for one monthly fee instead of you paying a large build cost up front and then hosting, updating and maintaining it yourself. The website and the work of keeping it working sit in the same arrangement.
How much does a website rental cost?
Website Rental is R499/month. Setup is R0 to R2,000 depending on the website and onboarding requirements, so plenty of customers pay nothing there. The monthly fee includes two content update requests, hosting, SSL and security, technical management, basic support, basic SEO setup, a site that works on a phone, and contact or WhatsApp options where they suit your business.
Is there a setup fee?
Sometimes. It is R0 to R2,000 depending on the website and onboarding requirements, not a fixed charge that everyone pays. It depends on what has to be set up for your particular website rather than on which plan you choose, so plenty of customers pay nothing. If we do quote a setup fee, we tell you what it covers before you agree to anything.
How many content update requests do I get?
Two content update requests are included each month. Need to update some text, swap an image or make another small content change? That is what they are for. New pages, major redesigns, new functionality and larger development work are quoted separately.
What counts as a larger change?
Anything that adds to the site rather than adjusting it: new pages, a major redesign, new functionality, or larger development work. Those are quoted separately, and we explain what the work involves before you decide.
Can I add technical SEO?
Yes. Website + Technical SEO is R999/month on top of the managed website. It covers the technical layer that decides whether search engines can find and read your pages: crawl and indexing checks, on-page technical improvements, internal linking and structured data upkeep. It is not a full SEO campaign, and it does not come with a promise about rankings.
Can I add Vellu AI?
Yes, and it is optional. Vellu AI handles the work that happens after someone contacts your business: answering routine questions, sorting out the enquiries worth your attention, and following up so leads do not go quiet. It is priced separately from any website plan, and it is not included in the rental fee. You can leave it out and the website works the same either way.
Can I use Vellu AI if my website is not hosted by Vellu Digital?
Yes. You do not need a Vellu Digital website to use it. If you already have a site, we can set it up on that instead.
What is Vellu AI?
It is an optional AI and automation add-on from Vellu Digital, sold either alongside a website plan or on its own. In practice it answers routine questions on your site using your own business information, qualifies new enquiries, books appointments, and follows up on open quotes so leads do not go quiet while you are on a job. Which of those are worth doing for you depends on your enquiry volume and what you already have in place.
Can I use Vellu AI with a Website Rental plan?
Yes. It is an add-on to the rental fee, not part of it. The website is managed the same way either way, and Vellu AI is only there if you want more of the after-enquiry work handled for you.
What happens to my content?
Your content stays yours. If you provide your own photos, logos or copy for the website, you retain ownership of those materials. We use them to build and run your site, and that does not transfer ownership to us. Stock photos, fonts, icons and plugins come with their own licence terms, so anything with a restriction gets flagged before we use it.
What about my domain?
Domain arrangements are set out in your agreement. We set them out plainly before you sign, so there is no ambiguity about who controls what.
Who owns the website under a rental plan?
Ownership and the handover position differ between the rental plan and a one-off project build, and that difference is worth settling before you commit rather than after. It is set out in the written plan, and you will see exactly what you own, what you are licensing and what happens to the site before you sign.
What happens if I want to leave Website Rental?
Leaving should be a decision you can make without drama, so we would rather tell you now what to establish than surprise you later. Two things decide it: whether you can take the website with you, and the notice period that applies. Both are set out in your written plan before you sign. If that flexibility is the main thing you need, a one-off project build may suit you better.
What is the difference between website rental and a website design project?
Website Rental is a monthly fee for a website we build and keep running. A design project is a one-off build, from R18,000, where you take on the hosting, updates and maintenance yourself afterwards. Rental suits businesses that want a smaller upfront commitment and someone else responsible for the technical side. A project build suits businesses that want full control and are ready to manage it after launch. The two routes are compared side by side on our comparison page.
Do you show prices online?
Yes. We publish our standard prices on the pricing page, so you can rule us out early if the numbers do not work for your business. They are not quotes: your final price depends on the scope of the work, and we confirm the exact price in writing before anything begins. No payment is taken when you request a plan.
Will submitting a brief charge me?
No. A plan request or Website Rental brief does not take payment or create an obligation.
What happens after I get in touch?
We read what you send and come back with a recommended route and scope, including what we think you do not need. If a different kind of help would serve you better than a website project, we will say so. You decide whether it is the right next step, and nothing is charged at this stage.
How long does it take?
A focused website project usually runs in a few weeks. Larger builds, rental briefs and anything involving an integration take longer, because scope and content readiness matter more than a standard timeline. We give you a realistic date in the proposal before any work starts, rather than quoting a number we cannot hold to.
Can you work with my existing website?
Possibly. We first review the platform, content, customer journey and business need before recommending focused changes or a rebuild. Quite often the answer is a smaller amount of work than a full rebuild, and we will say so if that is the case.
What if I already get most of my work through word of mouth?
That is a good problem to have, and it does not mean a website is pointless. It usually means the site needs to do a narrower job: answer the questions that would otherwise turn into phone calls, and make it easy for someone who found you at eight in the evening to make contact rather than wait for you to be free.
Which countries do you work with?
We work remotely with service businesses in many countries. We are based in Cape Town, South Africa, but no country is a limit on who we work with.
Can you guarantee first-page Google rankings?
No. Search positions depend on many factors and cannot be guaranteed responsibly. SEO work focuses on useful content, sound technical foundations and measurable progress.
What information should I prepare?
Be ready to describe your priority services, best-fit customer, location, current website, main obstacle and the action you want a serious visitor to take.
